If You Love Me...

52 Colours: Electric Lime

I still remember everyone freaking out about Electric Lime for Luna's Colour Challenge this week... but then I started seeing the start of all the amazing outfits. Naw I think everyone's gonna be fine. ;-)

The biggest thing I've noticed so far is that almost everyone has thought of this colour as either very retro or very futuristic. It can go either way, really since fashion trends always seem to come back in one form or another every 10,20,30+ years.

I had a more retro reaction to the shade, and like Ms. Crowley Lecter I went a more 50's route. Granted mine is probably early 50's but regardless...

Lime-1

This is actually a cute little polka dot dress from Acid & Mala Creations, though I think I accidentally made it look like a 50's bathing suit with the pose and background. Still I like how it all turned out... especially since I finally played around a bit with the in-world shadows thanks to Kirstens Viewer.

Lime-2

Also, the outfit was a gift from a long time patron to Sanctuary Rock, so I can't really complain. ;-)

52 Mad Props Challenge Catch Up...

Well it seems Sookie's Mad Props Challenge is on an indeterminate hiatus. Not sure if she simply got too busy with other things or if folks lost interest. Either way I was wanting to at the very least get UC and myself caught up to the last Photo Challenge she sent out at the end of January.

Once again we went completely outside the box with some zany ideas...

Week 6: Hanger

Hanger

Yeah I know. The original challenge for this one was for a Coat/Clothes Hanger but UC being UC decided that an Airplane Hanger was just as good. ;-) Granted we were walking all over this place just to find the right angle and plane to photograph. I think it worked out, though.

Week 8: Post-It Notes

Post-Its

I actually had an idea for this one ages ago thanks to this cute Sticky Note Prop from Sanu I'm wearing. The original idea was to have him and myself at an office somewhere (hence the work clothes) but it didn't quite work out. Instead we ended up in a cuddle pose with us both "holding" signs.

Week 9: Bundle of Flowers

Bundle of Flowers

We actually had a vase of roses in front of us while taking this shot, but hey that would be too easy, right? ;-)

----------------------------

I dunno if Sookie will eventually continue the Mad Props Challenge or not, but it's certainly been fun creating photos for the Props she's offered so far. :-)

But you're not a graphic/web designer...

Yeah I heard the above line frequently from my ex RL-supervisor. I guess that's part of why I keep pluggin' away at the stuff I do on SL because it's become a way to prove her wrong.

My latest endeavor was to redesign my store blog... again. :-P

The black leaf one was cool, but it was more meant for a personal blog than a commercial one. It was also directly from a blogger template I found and in which I did very little modification to.

So I went on the search for the "perfect template". 5 hours later... I found nothing I liked or bits and pieces I liked from various ones. I decided to say "fuck it" and just make my own using some of those little bits, a lot of Photoshopping and some coding I've picked up here and there.

I'm kinda sick of looking at it now, but I do like how it eventually turned out.

Take a peek and tell me what you all think. ;-)

Oh and... Smiley Ex-Boss!

DJ Earworm's Still Got it!

Yes my love of Music Mashups seems to have no end... especially when folks like DJ Earworm keep putting out amazing stuff like his yearly "United States of Pop" pieces.

He finally released his 2010 edition which is just as awesome as ever. Granted I'm
tired of seeing Lady Gaga, Black Eyed Peas, Rihanna and Katy Perry everywhere. Can we get some new blood please? :-P

Maybe he needs to do a United States of Jazz, R&B or hey even a Rock version. I'm sure it would be just as awesome.

Anyways... here's the vid, and is it just me or is Lady Gaga totally copying Madonna? They say that it's the best form of flattery, but really she needs to leave the flamboyance to the old school folks like the material girl & David Bowie.

Living: Quality over Quantity?

Pondering Life

You know... it never ceases to amaze me at the amount of advertisements you find in the media about prolonging your life. Whether it's some miracle anti-wrinkle cream or a miraculous new prescription pill that will fix your depression, arthritis, and blood pressure but has so many other side effects that you'll need 5 other pills just to balance everything out.

This obsession with everlasting life is certainly reflected in our pop culture as well. The amount of Vampire, Mummy, Demons/Angels and other such tales of supernatural immortality have skyrocketed since the days of Bram Stoker, Boris Karloff and Michael Landon (you're a true kid of the 80's if you get that last reference).

In any case... I've often pondered the difference between living a long life and living a fulfilling life. There's a quote from the movie, "Serendipity" where Jeremy Piven says,

"The ancient Greeks didn't write obituaries, instead they asked only one question
of a man: 'Did he have passion?'"

It doesn't mean passion in the physical sense so much as in the spiritual and emotional sense. It becomes more important to these ancient peoples to enjoy life to the fullest instead of try and elongate it as much as possible. Granted we must remember that people back then were lucky to live past the age of 35-40... so the idea of living each day as your last made more sense.

But with the modern world of skin creams, face lifts and popping pill after pill I have to wonder if it's truly worth it if you're not using to elevate your passions. Somehow I think that most of them aspire for them, but spend so much time preparing that they run out of time (and energy) to even begin attaining most of their dreams.

I don't know about you, but I'd rather save my time and energy from having Botox treatments to instead take that trip to Europe or see a Broadway show before there's no time left to truly enjoy them. That's where my passion lies...

Valentine's 2011

See what I mean about hugs being much better than flowers? ;-)

2 years of ups and downs, and yet somehow things seem to work out.

I hope everyone had a great holiday... even if it was simply sitting in front of the TV and watching sappy romantic comedies with some wine and a carton of Rocky Road ice cream.

At least we got Mardi Gras to look forward to, right?

52 Colours: Red

Yay we've finally hit the other colour in Luna's Challenge that I have a ton of in my inventory. I actually went through about 3 different wardrobe changes before I finally settled on... this:

Red-1

Instead of going the Romantic route due to the holiday, I decided in the long run to make myself into a Gothic Mad Hatter. Silent Sparrow's Lapine Frock Coat from the recent Magic of Oz Year of the Rabbit Event definitely became the palette and centerpiece for me to work with. :-)

Red-2

From there I just started adding red & black items around the coat until I came up with the final result.

Red-3

This is not to say I didn't want to add to the St. Valentine's Holiday. My brain just went in a different direction. In fact I've always had a Love/Hate thing with Valentine's the same way I've had with Christmas. I enjoy the meaning behind the Holiday... but I have grown displeased at how commercialized it has gotten over time.

I'd rather enjoy a genuine smile and a warm hug rather than a box of candy or flowers. Those seem to last longer in your mind anyways. ;-)

Music is Universal...

Yanno there's a quote from the first Crow movie where Brandon Lee says,

"Little things used to mean so much to Shelly. I used to think they were kind of trivial. Believe me, nothing is trivial."

I think if we all simply took some time to stop and enjoy those little things more and more... then the bigger things would be so much less of a hassle.

I caught one of those little yet absolutely amazing things today while out at lunch. One of many video screens in the restaurant my RL husband and I were at was showing music videos. One popped on which was showing video clips of different musicians from around the world all playing the Ben E King classic, "Stand By Me" in one huge recording. Trust me... I couldn't take my eyes of the screen until the song was completely finished. I couldn't even eat because I thought the concept was so incredible and beautiful.

Well after I got home I just had to look up this video on YouTube. Turns out it was part of a complete PBS documentary where musicians from around the world were asked to participate and play/sing on all these songs.

Here's the "Stand By Me" one that I saw originally... and underneath is one that just made me tear up and cry from the first note.

Apparently this project came out back in 2007... but even though I'm a bit late finding out about this, it's still worth sharing and listening to.

An Amusing Tale of a Possible Future...

science_fiction_by_davespertine

An interesting link that popped up on my radar today...

Did we ever think back in the 60's that by now we'd be in air cushion cars or farming underwater?

Well we're still waiting on flying cars to get here (2015 isn't that far away you know!) here's an article from 1968 which predicted how we'd all be living in 2008. Most of it is pretty spot on.

It proves that science fiction has gradually moved into science fact... with gadgets and such from Star Trek already making their way into our hands.

Now we just gotta get that transporter working and not walk out looking like Jeff Goldblum on a bad day. :-P

52 Colours: Black

Like many others this week... I had a struggle to pick the "right" black outfit for Luna's 52 Color Challenge. I finally decided on 2 things...

1) I would blog black things from designers I haven't blogged previously (well most of them I hadn't)

AND

2) I absolutely must use this hat...

e86a753c65ca451226012deea0f744da

I then saw a Group Notecard drop from Evie's Closet with her new Coppelia Gown. After 5 minutes of me squealing with joy at the photos, I noticed that the photo for the black one has Evangeline wearing this hat.

Coppelia Gown - Night Orchid

Then after telling UC about these dresses... he goes to SL Marketplace and buys me the black one without me even telling him which color I wanted.

It was Fate... FATE, I TELL YOU!

And so this outfit was born. ;-)

Please Don't Beg...

I know I'll get more nasty comments out of this, but I'm gonna post about it anyways 'cause frankly... it's my blog.

Anyways I don't see it as often as I used to... but there still are SL Club staff out there who either use chat or on the microphone to beg for their own tips. Trust me, folks... it doesn't work. Instead it makes you look needy and selfish. Spamming for your co-workers is a much better option in the long run.

I personally refuse to tip any on-duty club worker who promotes him or herself during the event. So if you see me there and wonder why you didn't get a tip when your co-worker(s) did... you have your answer.
